Casino cheating & Countermeasures - 2007/10/28 13:06
Subject: Casino cheating, particularly at Black Jack: I know that this is controversial subject. However, I have been gambling in casinos for the last 40 years, and for that matter, all over the world. And have done considerable reading on that subject. By now, I have formed my own opinion and have reached the following conclusion as far as casino cheating is concerned, I have come to a point where I trust all the major casinos, especially the ones where they spread out the cards on the Black Jack table when the cards are being replaced with new decks, and I can inspect them, to make sure that the decks are complete. As yet, though, I do not trust the casinos on cruise ships. Because I have not yet been able to check the cards on a ship before they are being put into play, and the shoe displays some unrealistic streaks of “Dealer friendly” cards, e.g. the dealer’s upcard is almost always a power card like 9, 10, or A, and he usually has a19 or 20 wired Or, on the other hand, when he shows a weak card like 4, 5, or 6, his hole card also turns out to be a low card, giving him a 9, 10, or 11, to draw to, leaving the player in a vulnerable position after he doubled down, or split a pair. I would like to hear your opinion or experiences on that subject. Or, if you have any suggestions about some reading material, or how a player can protect himself against casino cheating in unfavorable circumstances.

MrJay09 welcome to the forum
It is funny because if you search for cheating casino's the only thing that turns up at google is people cheating the casino (and methods) - I think there exists still too little awareness about casinos cheating people.
I agree with you, the major, big casinos usually are to be trusted. At everything else I keep, at all times, an open mind and calculate all possibilities.

On cruise ships, particularily on cruise lines that farm their casino operation out to offshore operators, I have seen just too many, and too long enduring "Dealer frirndly" streaks. Streaks that are statistically totally lopsided, and unlikely. I am very weary in that situation.

That's true. Always good to keep the eyes open and stop gambling when something 'weird' is noticed. What I have read a few times about though were casino EMPLOYEES cheating gamblers - even in respectable casino's (in the Netherlands). Purely for their own pockets. Even that can happen...

The following is an amusing but true experience I had in my past gambling jaunts, however this goes back about thirty years, to the early 70’s, to the days when 4-day junkets to Las Vegas were quite popular and occurred frequently. At that time I had established a credit line of $5,000 at a few casinos, like the Sands, the Riviera, and Caesar’s Palace.
When I gamble in a casino, I always tip the dealers by making a bet for them, if they are friendly and helpful, and the going goes well Dealers really appreciate and always remember this and will always go out of their way to make room for me at the crap table, or the Blackjack table. They would always wave at me when I entered the crap area, and call out: “Mr. Jay, there’s room for you right here.”
One time, on one of those junket s, I was down about $1,000, and sat down at a $25 Blackjack table, took out a $500 marker, and started to play, when I ran into a decent run of cards, and showed some profit. After a short while, I had increased my bet to $500, and what did I get? A ten and a six, wit the dealer also showing a ten. In those days the dealers had the check their hole card without the aid of those magnifying glasses that are built into the tables today. Anyhow, The dealer checks his hole card by peeking at it, by then he also knew that I would hit my sixteen against his ten, and, while looking at his hole card, whispered under his breath: ”Mr Jay, you are still alive!” Naturally, when he continued dealing, I waved my hand off, and stood on my 16. When it was time for him to turn over his hole card, he turned up a five, to give him a 15, he hit his hand, busted, and I won my bet. Naturally, I gave him a good tip, and continued playing a bit longer, till the cards turned against me and left musing about this incident.

Mr Jay I have been a dealer for a few yrs and Gambled most of my life, What I have found is the casinos dont really have to cheat the games are just built to be in there favor. I have dealt BJ for 8 hours and never had anyone beat me, and beat most ppl BAD! And I manually shuffle so I know there is NO cheating. The reason the dealer whens the most is We go last,,,,,, Been on a few cruises and never had any problems that I saw. Good luck at the tables sir
